About Mr. Tvrdy
My name is Tyler Tvrdy and I am very excited to be back for a fifth year at Norterra Canyon! This year, I will be teaching grades K-3 General Music, 4th grade band, 5th grade Choir and 6th-8th grade IB MYP Choirs.
I am originally from Missouri. I graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Vocal Music Education. I taught pre-k for a year in Missouri before moving abroad to the Kingdom of Bahrain where I taught middle school music at an international school for five years. In 2020, I moved across the world to another desert here in Phoenix. In my spare time I enjoy traveling (30+ countries and still counting), hiking, cooking, and playing piano and ukulele, and I am always singing! I still enjoy performing as part of the Phoenix College Community Choir and the Arizona Musical Theater Orchestra. I'm also the vocal director for the Art and Sol Performing Arts Program in Scottsdale.
It is my mission as a Music Educator to create a positive learning environment in which the safety, academic needs, and growth of my students are my top priorities. Using the Elements of Music and Performance, I will teach a curriculum that gives my students the opportunities they need to develop as musicians and a community. I encourage my students to see themselves as life-long learners. We will explore performance, aesthetics, history, and music appreciation. We will take creative risks and celebrate diversity. I intend to provide my students a safe place to reach their fullest potential through a comprehensive music program.
